Description

Output a variable voltage of up to 12V from your Pimoroni Yukon project, with this 5A step-down regulator. You can adjust the output voltage programmatically and in real-time!

Use this to power devices that accept a variable voltage such as PC fans, and single colour LED strips. Alternatively, there is a "lock" trace on the underside that can be cut to fix the output at 5V regardless of the signal it is being given. In addition, there are two unpopulated digital IO signals exposed (with neighbouring 3.3V and GND pads) that can be used to connect up digital sensors to use as feedback.

Features

  • TPS54A24 step-down converter (datasheet)
  • Adjustable 3V to 12V output*
  • 5mm spaced screw terminals for attaching your output
  • 5A continuous current (10A peak)
  • 5V "lock" mode via cuttable trace
  • Exposed digital IO pads for feedback
  • Voltage, temperature and power good sensors
  • Fully-assembled
  • Soldering required for use of digital IO
  • Compatible with Pimoroni Yukon

Notes

  • Measurements: 24mm x 20mm x 15.3mm (L x W x H).
  • * To achieve the module's full output voltage range, Yukon's input voltage needs to at least 12V. For input voltages below 12V the module will only deliver up to that voltage on its output.
  • This module uses the RP2040's PWM hardware to control the output voltage. This means that only four modules can be used simultaneously, and they should be placed in Yukon Slots that do not share the same PWMs.
    • PWM 0B is on Yukon Slots 1 and 5
    • PWM 2B is on Yukon Slots 2 and 6
    • PWM 4B is on Yukon Slot 3
    • PWM 6B is on Yukon Slot 4

About Yukon

Yukon is a high-power modular robotics and engineering platform, built around Raspberry Pi's formidable RP2040 chip. It has slots for attaching interchangeable hardware modules for driving combinations of devices such as motors, servos, steppers, and LED strips, all from one board!

Featuring an XT30 connector, Yukon can be directly powered off 2 to 4 cell LiPo batteries (or any other 5 to 17V source), to deliver up to 15A continuous for your high-power projects. An e-Fuse with switchable output protects the board, along with voltage, current, and temperature sensors that can be monitored by your programs.
